I have neglected this blog in the last while as we have been setting up individual sights on our front page of low country boys.... When you go to http://www.lowcountryboys.com/ there are three photos half way down the page one of Gibson, Richard & myself, click on Ivan and this will open into my site .. it will give you pictures etc. from my point of view .. I am still learning how to set things up ... unsuccessfully most of the time but it is improving! the site for Gibson & Richard should be activated this week! This blog may be moved to our individual sites but I am not sure about that just yet so keep looking through the site for changes!

WE have done some private bookings in October and in the last couple of weeks we have been with the Salvation Army up in Belfast playing for the folk in residence at Calder House...click the above link to see details. Well we are back!.. seems an age since i gave an update....over Christmas Gibson and myself have had flu to different degrees..Richard escaped so far! The 2011 CD (Plain An Simple) is almost complete..we did not make the November deadline so things aren't in a rush, i am just waiting for William ( our producer to do the final master) hopefully this week it will be away for manufacture.. which takes approx. two weeks..will keep you updated now that things are on the move...

A few weeks ago i mentioned that there might be a new album in the pipe line...well we were in the recording studio last night with gibo puttin some vocal and banjo tracks down!.I had a chat with William ( our recording man ) to see if he could squeeze me in for an hour or two to record a couple of wee tunes and songs i had been working on..he said that he could fit me in here and there with a few hours.. this has developed a little more and i have put down a few more tracks with songs that i sing when we are out as Low Country Boys, we will end up with a dozen tracks i think!. The style will be a little different as it will be songs that I sing the lead vocal in...i hope to upload some tracks shortly on our site to give you a flavour of it, there may be some friends helping out with a song or two but nothing is setteled just yet,it is touch and go if it will be out for Christmas and we will sell it from our web site and at concerts at first and will see about the shops after Christmas..so keep your eyes on http://www.lowcountryboys.com/ for progress report!

as i drove home.

Went to hear The Belfast Community Choir on Sat. evening
in Ballywalter Church Hall, Marie Lacey is the conductor and
leader..we took part in many events with Marie years ago
when i played in the Ronnie Graham Band!

I had never been to Harry Ferguson's place before even though it's only about thirty five miles away, he was an amazing man.. a bronze memorial of himself stands just opposite the home farm and a few plaques documenting some of his achievements, I was on an errand to get a hydraulic seal for my tractor when I stumbled across it!

A few we shots of things happening around the low country this week!

We were over at the recording studio on Thursday last putting down a wee instrumental tune or two ~ was down the harbour at Portavogie on Saturday the Portavogie boys were mending the nets! ~ this tidy outfit was lifting grass in the fields beside me...the harvester has two engines putting out around 750 horse power! i like the chrome exhaust pipes!

I wus lennin a haun till ma friens tha day....we were bailing in the wee fields above Greyabbey, the photo shows the Montgomery home in the background, Sir Hugh Montgomery arrived here in 1606 and i am sure he must have stood in the same wee field we were working in and surveyed the lands he claimed from Irish Chieftain Con O'Neill !

If you have never seen a pheasant's nest before,here is a wee picture of one...i was walking across the field and stooped down to lift this old bit of whinn bush when i saw the clutch of eggs.. it is no wonder the fox gets so many of them ...there was no cover except this stick or two!

low country boys ~ Silage time again!

It used tae tak weeks tae put a wheen o acres o silage in...noo ye can dae it in yin or twa days!.. When i was a wee fella we would cut the grass and cart it into the silo on an old buckrake and it took ages to get it in,then the single chop jf or tarrup harvester came along... but today this is how it went in..well it was mowed down and kicked out yesterday then most of it lifted today and tomorrow we will cover it! The contractor was using two self propelled harvesters, almost 1300 horse power between them..my father and i cut corn with a P3 ,T20 tractor and binder in the same fields and built two corn stacks...she didn't burn as much diesel as the silage outfit!...by the way does anybody know what horsepower the P3 ,T20 was? P.S. if you are viewing this blog and don't know what silage is..just look on the web.

low country boys ~ Lisbane

Lisbane is just doon tha road a wee bit fa me ( a couple of miles) ... as i was on an errand some weeks ago in the Upper Ards direction , this wee Chapel and the Mourne mountains behind caught my eye and so i had to pull over and get the camera out... very often i am working in the fields around here but i have seldom seen the Strangford Lough , mountains and sky with so much blue in them.. this wee chapel was built in 1777 and in pre rebellion years (1798) it is thought that it was used by Presbyterian folk on occasions ! North of this location brings you into Hamilton & Montgomery's settlement area (1604),to the south was the Savage Of The Ards lands.

Low Country Boys...Hard Day for Gibson

Gibson said his last goodbye to his father today... after the service we carried him out of the wee Gospel Hall in Ballyhalbert and laid him to rest in Greyabbey cemetery... Life at best is very brief, ... like the falling of a leaf, like the binding of a sheaf... Be in time... But, when we all get to heaven what a day of rejoicing that will be ! ...Thanks for your prayers and support.

This great weather has let us get the crops sown..when i went down to Killinchy to get some spare parts the other day i had my camera with me ..i went into the field to look at these wee lambs, when i lay down to take their photo they came over to investigate!
